So close

After Brian Vezina's fourth-inning triple drove in Andrew Wells, Whittier was one out away from 1-0 tourney win over Watertown. But a wicked hop grounder tied it and Watertown plated a pair in the ninth to take a 3-1 victory. The Wildcats had a big squander in the bottom of the seventh when they loaded the bases but couldn't score.

The Whittier Tech baseball team made three runs in the bottom of the first stand to defeat Bristol of Plymouth 3-2 in the semifinals of the state vocational tournament.

Corey Hawkins and Shane Surette drew RBI walks in the three-run seventh inning to lift Whittier past Pentucket, 7-5. Surette's was an epic 10-pitch at-bat. Brian Vezina singled in the other run.

Rainy-day comeback

After trailing for much of a rainy afternoon, Haverhill got a two-run homer from J.T. Ruth in the top of the seventh inning to draw even with Whittier, then had Zach Evans follow with a single that brought home pinch runner Matt McIntosh with the game-winner in a 4-3 victory. George Gouthier and Paul Mahoney had the key hits in Whittier's three-run second inning.

Wells, Whittier walk-off with win

Andrew Wells hit a lined shot past the shortstop with one out in the seventh inning to score Connor Manning with the game-winner as Whittier turned aside Lowell Catholic, 2-1.  Manning came in to run for Devan Doucette, who led off the inning with a walk.

Extra (inning) effort

Anthony Licciardello struck the key blow of the game in the form of an eighth-inning, two-run triple that sent Whittier to a 4-1 victory over Northeast. Brian Vezina went the distance for the first time this season, scattering five hits and fanning 11 for the win. Ample defensive support came from third baseman George Gouthier and shortstop Andrew Wells, stealing a couple of potential late-game Northeast hits that preserved the tie.
