The North Reading volleyball team, seeded 10th, used balance to upend No. 1 seed Greater Lawrence in the Division 2 North quarterfinals.

The North Reading volleyball team crushed Revere 25-7, 25-7, 25-8 to qualify for the state tournament. Kat Mazzone was immense with her serving for the Hornets (9-8), collecting 20 points that included 10 aces. She also had five kills.

Merrimack College senior quarterback James Suozzo has been named the Northeast-10 conference Offensive Player of the Week. He led the Warriors through the air as well as on the ground as he compiled 383 total yards and five total touchdowns in Merrimack’s 43-30 victory on Saturday against Stonehill.

Emily Murray contributed in every phase of the game in North Reading's volleyball sweep of Beverly. She had team-highs in service points (10), aces (3), digs (2) and blocks (1), adding 8 assists to an impressive statistical day.

  After defeating North Reading last year for the first time in 10 years, the Knights turned the trick again yesterday, shutting out the Hornets, 25-16, 25-18, 25-23.
