Booming bats

Just in time for the tournament, North Reading's bats have come alive as shown by its 16-hit effort in a 10-3 Clancy Tourney victory against Lynn Classical. Along with a six-hit pitching performance, leadoff man Ryley Warnock had two singles, a double and a triple to drive home three runs. The hottest bat in the Hornet lineup, Nick Moscaritolo added 4 hits as he's gone 9 for 12 in his last three games. As a team, North Reading has averaged 11 runs and 14 hits during its five-game winning streak.

Share of CAL title

North Reading baseball won 12-6 over Amesbury to improve to 9-4 in the CAL and gain a share of the league title with Newburyport. It is North Reading's ninth title in the past 11 years.

Hornets get offensive

Although he gave up nine hits, Ryley Warnock benefitted from three double plays and had three hits including a triple offensively as North Reading beat up on Lynnfield, 12-1. As part of a 19-hit afternoon, Ben Harrow added a two-run double highlighting his three-hit effort and Kyle Boucher had four hits and two RBIs.

David Giannattasio and Nick Rosano each had a pair of hits and drove in three runs, lifting North Reading over Manchester, 14-4. Junior Kyle Boucher had three hits for the winners.

Sachems hang on

After erupting for five runs in the top of the fourth, North Reading self-destructed in the bottom half of the frame with two key errors and three walks, allowing six Pentucket runs after two were out. That was all the scoring we'd see in the Sachems' 6-5 baseball win.

Weisman dominates again

North Andover ace Mike Weisman was his dominant self yesterday as he overpowered North Reading and led the Knights to their ninth-straight win. The Columbia-bound lefty struck out nine and didn't walk a batter in a five-hitter.  He allowed one run and it was unearned.

Intangibles

On a day when North Reading stranded 10 runners on base, Nick Moscaritolo did the little things to earn the Hornets a tough 2-1 victory over Ipswich. Moscaritolo was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fifth inning to tie the game, then hustled his way to second base on a seventh-inning infield error and was driven in by Eric Popp's two-out single for the game-winner.

Late inning drama for Hornets

Trailing by a run with two outs in the seventh, freshman Keith Linnane sent the game into extra innings with an RBI single, and in the ninth inning Nick Rosano singled and scored on a throwing error to give North Reading a 6-5 win over Hamilton-Wenham. Ryley Warnock worked all nine innings to earn the victory.
