Royals blue after loss

Georgetown stormed back from a halftime deficit to tie things up, but Marblehead rattled off a six-goal run to take charge and defeat the upset-minded Royals, 20-13, in Division 2 North first round action. In just her second year playing the game, senior Paige Murphy closed her career with another strong effort in net while Chelsea Burke, Marisa Agganis and Sammi Francesconi were also lauded by head coach Heather Hartford.

Sweet revenge

After losing this type of game five days before to Manchester Essex, Georgetown knew what it had to do to prevail this time against the Hornets. Kristen Pingree (six goals on the day) scored off a free play inside the eight-yard zone late in the second half to allow the Royals (8-8) to keep its tourney hopes alive with a 14-13 victory.

Pingree power

Working off an isolation play, senior Kristen Pingree scored with just 20 seconds remaining to get Georgetown a huge 13-12 lacrosse victory over Masconomet, who was previously unbeaten in Cape Ann League play. "This was a total team effort," said coach Heather Hartford. "The girls really pulled together."

Sophomore Kayla O'Connor scored three goals, giving her 101 for her career as Pentucket whipped Georgetown 22-7. Senior Colleen Murray scored five times for the Sachems and Sarah Higgins and Shannon Beaton held Georgetown high scorr Kristen Pingree to just two goals.

Triton 17, Georgetown 12

Kristen Pingree left it all out on the field for Georgetown, scoring eight goals, but Triton was able to overcome her efforts and prevail, 17-12. Nikki Perakis registered her first goal of the season and goalie Paige Murphy kept the Royals in the hunt with 12 big saves.

Parity in the CAL

In a back-and-forth battle, Georgetown took its final lead with three minutes left and held on for a 14-13 girls lacrosse victory over Newburyport. "I think this is how the CAL will be," Royals coach Heather Hartford said, "there's parity across the board. Whoever makes least amount of mistakes will win." Sam Francesconi was immense on defense for Georgetown while Michelle Reilly (four goals), Chelsea Burke and Mimi Lacortiglia (three goals each) drove the offense.
