QUINCY — The thrill is gone. Despite the Georgetown girls soccer team’s 1-0 loss to Millis in the Division 3 state semifinal last evening at Quincy’s Veterans Memorial Stadium, there is reason for optimism.

No. 5 seeded Georgetown crushed No. 1 Matigon 9-1 in a Division 3 North semifinal game and advanced to the fina at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Woburn. It will play the winner of today's semifinal between Shawsheen and Greater Lowell. 

Nicoline Holland took a pass from Nicole DiMaio off a corner and blasted home a goal with seven minutes left in the game to give No. 5  Georgetown a 3-2 win over No. 13 Weston in the Division 3 North quarterfinals.

Freshman Jamie Block had two saves in the first half, shutting out Notre Dame of Tyngsboro, then moved to striker and scored a pair of second-half goals in Georgetown's 6-1 first round Division 3 North victory.

HAMILTON — Things can change in a heartbeat. 

After looking poised to score with just over a minute and a half left in the fourth quarter in a tie game against Hamilton Wenham, a costly Georgetown fumble gave the ball back to the Generals who marched down the field in just six plays to kick the game-winning field goal with just five seconds left.

GEORGETOWN — The Georgetown and Ipswich football teams met yesterday with a combined record of 0-11.

The Royals collected their first victory, posting a 28-13 victory at Georgetown High. Georgetown senior captain Chris Esposito notched his second straight game in which he had 100-plus yards rushing and 100-plus yards passing. He completed 9 of 20 passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns. He also had 19 carries for 100 yards and two rushing touchdowns.

After a three-goal effort against Amesbury, Georgetown's Matt Bitchell went off for another hat trick in a 5-2 victory over a tourney-bound Rockport squad. Ryan Browner, who opened the scoring for the Royals (4-7-3), spotted a perfect pass for Bitchell early in the second half for the eventual game-winner.

North Andover's girls soccer team scored the only goal of the game with 47 seconds left to nip Georgetown in a tense Cape Ann League battle. Caroline Kirby scored the goal in a pass from Alana Houlihan after a corner kick for the Knights (6-3-4). The Royals dropped to 9-2-1.

PEABODY — Despite a career best game for Georgetown quarterback Chris Esposito, the Royals fell to a run-heavy Bishop Fenwick team 33-15. 

Although a Georgetown quarterback last named Esposito putting up impressive numbers is not new to the Georgetown faithful, it was the first name that was different against Fenwick. After playing fullback for two seasons behind his older brother Joe, Chris Esposito made the conversion to qb look easy as he threw for 99 yards and a touchdown pass on 10-14 passing while the fullback inside him came alive as well, bulling over defenders for 128 yards rushing most of them comming between the tackles.

North Reading's Chris Cavanaugh scored a goal with 58 seconds left to give North Reading its first win this month over Georgetown. The goal was unassisted and was scored from 20 yards out on a great lofted kick. Georgetown had carried play until that point despite the tied game. Dave Vollor scored North Readings other goal and Georgetown's goal came from Matt Bitchell.
