Lawrence senior Carlos Ditren earned his first varsity win in his first start.

Typically a reliever, Ditren went seven innings and gave up one run, no earned runs, and three hits while striking out 11 batters to help Lawrence baseball win 3-1 over Haverhill.

Lawrence baseball takes title

Victor Mendez hit two home runs, blasting one over the wall to left field and legging out an inside-the-park round-tripper to center as Lawrence beat Dracut 6-4 to clinch its third straight Merrimack Valley Conference Small championship. Juan Ventura added a key three-run triple for the winners.

Victor Mendez did it all for Lawrence yesterday as the Lancers posted an impressive 6-2 victory over Tewksbury. He fired a complete-game five hitter, striking out 10, and helped hisd own cause with two hits and three RBIs.

After starting the season on the JV squad, Alberto Abreu is making his mark at the varsity level.

Pinch hitting in a pressure-packed situation with two outs in the top of the seventh inning, the Lawrence junior delivered an RBI double to tie the score with Dracut and send the game to extra innings.

Darwin's Theory

Only the strong survive in extra innings, a lesson that Darwin  Brito and Lawrence High proved yesterday, knocking off Malden High in eight innings, 4-2.

Brito stroked a clutch two-run double in the top of the eighth to break the 2-2 tie. Victor Mendez then came on to pitch the perfect bottom half of the frame, saving the hard-earned win by Anthony Rodriguez, who struck out four in seven innings of six-hit ball. Sophomore Jose Cedano had a big day at the plate, going 4 for 4, including a two-run single to put the 6-1 Lancers on the board in the second.

Matos on the money

 

Senior Ricardo Matos slapped a two-run single in the third, getting the Lawrence offense going in a 6-2 win over Tewksbury. The Lancers, now 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the MVC, got a tidy complete game from Yunior Vasquez, who struck out nine and walked a pair in the six-hitter.
