Hornets fall short

Lauren Hebert posted 18 points, but No. 9 North Reading fell to No. 8 Bishop Fenwick 66-47 in the first round of the Division 3 North tournament.

"We just made too many mistakes in the first half and put ourselves in a hole," said Hornets coach Karla Sullivan. "There were too many turnovers and the shots weren't falling. We kept the pressure on in the second half, but it was too late."

Worth the wait

North Andover finished with a CAL title and a perfect league record for the first time since 2005, accomplishing the feats with its 63-44 defeat of North Reading. Sophomore Morgan Lumb (team-high 19 points and 7 rebounds) played well once again for the Knights while Erika Zahoruiko contributed to a defensive effort that held the Hornets to just 15 first-half points. With only eight free throws attempted, the game took just one hour to play.

Merrimack players cited

 

 

 Four Merrimack College football players were named to the Football Gazette’s Super Region 1 team, led by Shawn Loiseau, who was a first-team honoree. second team selections included David Bellmont and Tony Johnson, while Greg Abelli was a third-team honoree. Loiseau, the defensive Player of the Year, was the only first-team selection from the Northeast-10 Conference, while Merrimack led all Northeast-10 schools with four selections.

Hebert's back

Lauren Hebert spent the past three games sidelined because of being sick but she was back yesterday and poured in 17 points in North Reading's 62-17 victory over Rockport. Hebert netted the only 3-pointer of the contest.  Kirsten Morrison also scored 17 points.
