Zarina Pinto scored in the first 22 seconds of the game to propel Central Catholic to a 2-0 tournament victory over Lynn Classical. The Raiders advance to Saturday's first round game at 6 p.m. against Newton South.

Josilin Gove and Jenna Roche drove in the runs in the third inning and Gove fanned nine in a complete game win. They led North Andover past Lynn Classical, 2-1, in the North softball prelims.

Lawrence volleyball left no doubt in its Division 1 North first round matchup against Lynn Classical. Led by 10 kills each from Alondra Davila and Chantel Melgen as well as 17 assists and seven aces from Jasmine Mejia, the No. 6 Lancers throttled their way to a 3-0 sweep to advance to the quarterfinals.

The Haverhill softball team jumped out in front early, taking a 5-0 lead after the second inning, and pitcher Bryana Michitson took care of things from there, going the distance to help the Hillies beat Lynn Classical 6-1 in the Division 1 North First Round. 

Johnny Orlando had two goals and two assists and linemates Brendan Lincoln and Max Whitmyre had a goal and three assists as Pentucket (10-6-3) blanked Lynn Classical 4-0 for the title of the Newburyport Bank Tournament. Anthony Orlando got his second shutout and was named tourney MVP. Johnny Orlando and Ethan Dore were on the all-tourney team. 

NORTH ANDOVER — A dejected North Andover defense walked back to the sidelines after allowing three straight Lynn Classical touchdowns on three consecutive drives in the second quarter.

Central Catholic's softball team lept its cinderella run alive Saturday night with a 1-0 Division 1 North win over Lynn Classical. The Raiders, who won their last four games to make the tournament, won their second straight as Olivia Antczak and Eve Walker combined on a three-hitter. Courtney Woranka (2 for 3) scored the Raiders' lone run in the second inning on an error.

LAWRENCE — The Central Catholic softball team wasn’t going to let the rain get to them.

Scott Allen hurled a complete-game, one-hit shutout, struck out seven and walked two to lead North Reading baseball 2-0 over Lynn Classical in the semifinals of the Clancy Tournament. 

ANDOVER — Jessica Witten waited four years for the chance to start a playoff game.

When her opportunity arrived last night, Witten more than made it count.

The senior tri-captain erupted for 25 points, including five 3-pointers, to help No. 6 Andover roll past No. 11 Lynn Classical 66-45 in the Division 1 North first round last night.
