Phillips held high-powered Choate to just a single score in the first half, but the Wild Boars scored three times in the third and pulled away for a 27-15 victory.

"It's been a while since a team has held Choate to just one score in the first half," said Big Blue coach Leon Modeste. "So we did well. I am very proud of the way our kids played today."

Losing 3-1 in the final minutes, Brooks tied Choate 3-3 with the goalie pulled and then scored in OT to win a stunner, 4-3, in the semifinals of the New England Prep Martin/Earl Large School Tournament.

The Phillips Academy volleyball team took No. 1 Choate to a fifth game before falling in the Class A semifinals Saturday. Alex Becker and Fran Trautmann had 12 kills apiece for the Big Blue. With the win, Choate coach Dave Loeb won his 400th match.

Phillips football suffered a 56-6 loss to Choate on the road Sunday.

Phillips runners took three of the top four places in the Big Blue's 19-38 win over Choate in boys cross country.

Paul McGovern of Methuen finished fourth (17:33). His teammate Ethan McIntosh (16:52) won.

Phillips teammates Anoush Shehadeh, Peyton McGovern, Carmen Bango, Michaela Jones and Grace Rademacher all crossed the finish line at the same time (19:27.6) to lead Phillips 15-48 over Choate in girls cross country.

Phillips Academy standout Anoush Shehadeh broke her own course record, running 17:37 on the Big Blue's 5K course, to pacea 19-42 victory.

The Phillips Academy girls soccer team handed Choate its first loss of the season, and first goal against, with a 1-0 victory. Katie Kreider of Boxford scored the goal for the Big Blue (3-4) in the second half.

Brooks junior Andrew Konovalchik of North Andover won the 160-pound division at the 43-team Prep New Englands. Konovalchik, who was runner-up last year and was fifth as a freshman, went 4-0 on the day with two pins, a major decision and a 15-9 win in the finals over of Dan Toubman of Nobles.

Top-seeded Phillips Academy rallied from a two-game deficit to tie the match and send it into a deciding fifth game, but could not finish it off and fell to No. 5 Choate 25-22, 25-18, 17-25. 21-25, 15-9 in the NEPSAC Class A Semifinals.
