A trio of Andover boys tennis players advanced during Saturday's opening round of the North Sectional individual tournament. David Grossman won two matches comfortably at singles, 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-1, and Avi Jonarthanan is also advancing after a 6-4, 6-4 win. At doubles, the Warriors' top team of Sam Feng and Bryan Hun Htun won 6-4, 6-1. The individual tournament continues Sunday.

WALLINGFORD, Conn — Phillips ran into the buzzsaw that is perrenial power Choate Rosemary Hall on Saturday, falling 51-8.

Phillips (1-2) struggled to move the ball, only gaining 163 total yards of offense.

Ashley Tucker had two goals and an assist as the Phillips Academy field hockey team remained unbeaten, crushing Choate 8-0.

North Andover's Michaela Jones finished first in 19:16 for 5K and Phillips Academy's girls took the top three spots in a 24-36 win over Choate.

North Andover's Alex Fleury finished second overall with a fine time of 16:36 on the Phillips Academy 5K course as the Big Blue beat Choate 24-36.

NORTH ANDOVER — Phillips ran into a buzzsaw on Saturday, falling to three-time defending NEPSAC champions Choate, 40-0.

"They're tremendous," said Phillips coach Leon Modeste, whose team dropped to 3-1. "One of the best high school football teams I've ever seen."

The Northern Essex volleyball team won two out of three matches in tournament play on Saturday. The Knights swept Mass. Bay, beat Morris 3-1 then were swept in their final match by Howard. 

The Brooks boys squash team opened its season with a 7-0 win over  BB&N. Among the winners for Brooks were freshmen Jose Victorino of Lawrence, Tobey Smith of North Andover and Nick Carabatsos of North Andover.

Post-grad Samantha Valentine finished first overall in 17:34 and North Andover's Michaela Jones was third in 18:11 on Phillips Exeter's home course but the Big Blue finished second to the host team in the Division 1 prep meet.

Phillips Academy allowed three first quarter touchdowns, and could not recover on the way to a 49-7 loss to Choate.

"Choate is a very, very good team," said Phillips coach Leon Modeste. "They haven't lost in about 2 ½ years and you can see why. We knew we faced a very tough matchup, and today we were overmatched. They are excellent."
