The Brooks boys basketball team opened up a two-game lead over second-place Belmont Hill in Tuesday's 61-44 win, with Merrimac's Pat Freiermuth leading the way with 17 points.

North Andover's Nick Konovalchik (160) and heavyweight Owen Rosenberger repeated as league champions to pace Brooks to third place at the Independent School League meet at Belmont Hill Saturday.

Lavar Harewood scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Brooks defeated Belmont Hill 60-44 in a battle of ISL powers.

Brooks nipped Belmont Hill, 243-235, to repeat as champions of the 14-team Graves-Kelsey Tourney. The champs got some big wins head-to-head vs. Belmont Hill foes from Chris Cervizzi, Andrew Bolte and Will Collins. Four Brooks grapplers won titles: Bolte and North Andover residents Nick Konovalchik, Jake Gottfried and Owen Rosenberger.

Andover's Jackson Quinn had a pin in 40 seconds and North Andover's Jake Gottfried had a pin in 49 seconds to highlight Brooks' 46-24 win over Belmont Hill. The Green and White improved to 16-3.

Malden Catholic star Tyler Sifferlen of North Andover, a UMass Lowell recruit, scored four points in yesterday afternoon's 5-3 win over St. John's but was hurt late in the game. He was caught on a big hit and tended to by trainers. A teammate helped him off the ice. MC coach John McLean tweeted at about 2:30 p.m., "We’ll have to take him to the doctor to see if he has a concussion and go from there. He's conscious and sitting up."

The Brooks boys basketball team was off the mark, hitting 2 of 21 3-pointers, but it held on to defeat a good Belmont Hill team, 55-50. Jayde Dawson led Brooks (14-4) with 19 points.

Brooks' Andrew Konovalchik of North Andover won the 160 weight class at the ISL tournament and helped Brooks take fifth as a team. Belmont Hill won the tournament with 246 points.

NORTH ANDOVER — Brooks ran into an angry Belmont Hill squad and paid the price, falling behind 21-0 in the first quarter and dropping a 35-7 decision.

The Green and WHite (1-4), trying to win their second straight, broke up the shutout bid in the fourth quarter on a 10-yard scoring run by Justin Freeman.

The Brooks boys basketball team snapped a three-game losing skid with an impressive 71-46 victory over Belmont Hill. Down 7-0, Brooks (13-5) zoomed to a 47-32 halftime lead. Anthony Barry led the way with 20 points.
