A couple rookies delivered like old pros. First-year head coach Rob McLaughlin was cool under fire and baseball star Nick Poore, who didn't play last year, made a play for the ages in his varsity debut as Salem beat Londonderry, 57-55, in overtime.
Jonny Klecan hounded the Lancers into a turnover with five seconds left in OT and Poore (10 points), the BC-bound pitcher, streaked the 75 feet for a buzzer-beating layup.
"It was crazy," said McLaughlin, the longtime JV coach. "Poore came up huge, obviously. Klecan played a great game. He must have had five steals. He was the catalyst. I was hoping to empty the bench, but I'll take it!"
