Pelham's Ryan White scored with 4 1/2 minutes left in regulation to send the game into overtime, and the No. 9 Pythons pushed top-seeded Merrimack Valley to the limit before falling 3-2 in double overtime in the Division 2 quarterfinals.
"We played an oustanding game," said Pelham coach Matt Regan. "We controlled the game, and they beat us on one play. The winner was from 30 yards out."
Merrimack Valley led 2-0, before Derek DeFranzo scored with 18 minutes left to cut the lead in half. White then sent the game to overtime, with both goals assisted by Alec Paradis. Brian Finney made 13 saves for the Pythons.
"It was a tremendous effort," said Regan. "Some injuries took the wind out of our sail, but we fought until the end."
