Odds and ends: Phillips lost to five-time defending champion Hotchkiss last fall in the New England Prep A finals. ... It was the Big Blue's first final appearance in 13 years, according to coach Kate Dolan. ... Phillips opened with a 3-0 win over Governor's Academy. Colleen Flanagan, Eliza Flynn and Kaitlyn McInnis scored. ... Stephanie Clegg broke her thumb in the opener and her status is up in the air.
Coach Kate Dolan (18th year): "We have a mix of older and younger players. (Freshman goalie) Shannon McSweeney is good. She has a strong Futures background. Lindsey Weiner and Britney Van Valkenburg are very good. Our forwards are kind of inexperienced."
