Josh Boyce scored on a penalty kick and later in the second half set up Mike Pennachio for the winning goal as Peabody (12-1) won its seventh in a row by fighting off Salem, 2-1, at Salem's Bertram Field.
Boyce converted the PK at 5:20 after a scoreless first half Salem's Brad Duhaime tied the score off a corner kick, knocking home a deflected ball, at the 23-minute mark, after which Pennachio flipped home Peabody's winning tally from inside the 6-yard line after sliding around a defender.
Duhaime's goal ended a scoreless string of 380 minutes by the rotating Peabody goalies, Brian Fleming and Justin Famiglietti, who allowed the scoring strike. The stingy tandem was working on four straight shutouts.
Peabody coach Stan McKeen said he expected a highly competitive match since the Tanners had beaten the Witches by only a 2-0 margin earlier and were missing one of their aces, center-middie Carlos DeOliveira. The coach credited Mike Dunleavy and Dominic Mondi for their defensive efforts.
