Peabody outlasts Salem in NEC duel

Josh Boyce scored on a penalty kick and later in the second half set up Mike Pennachio for the winning goal as Peabody (12-1) won its seventh in a row by fighting off Salem, 2-1, at Salem's Bertram Field.

Dominic Mondi, a junior stopper, came up with what proved to be the winning goal in the first half as the Tanners prevailed over Saugus, 1-0, in a Northeastern Conference matchup.

PEABODY | If you don't shoot the ball on net, you won't win. Throughout yesterday's game, Salem High boys soccer coach Mike D'Agostino repeatedly urged his Witches to shoot the ball on goal. But the stellar defense turned in by host Peabody High did not allow for many scoring chances. As a result, Salem suffered its first loss of the season, a 2-0 setback to the Tanners in their first matchup as Northeastern Conference rivals.

Peabody beats Lynn English

Carlos DeOliveira buried a first half penalty kick to give Peabody all the offense it needed in a 3-0 win over Lynn English. Dominic Mondi and Jared Rizzo had the other goals for the Tanners (3-0-0), who saw Justin Famiglietti and Brian Flemming combine for the shutout in net.

Stan McKeen, the Peabody High boys' coach who just notched his 100th career victory, attended Lynn English at a time when the school didn't have soccer.

Nor was he too crazy about the sport when his wife Sharon suggested they take first son Timmy to start soccer at an early age.
