Mike Downing's goal inside of the last five minutes was the difference as Salem edged Londonderry 2-1 last night at the Icenter.
"It was a tight game," said Londonderry head coach Peter Bedford. "It
was really a back-and-forth game and no one really took control until
late. It was a well played game by both teams."
It was sweet revenge for the Blue Devils, who fell to the Lancers 4-1 in the first meeting of the two teams on Jan. 27 while Salem was in the midst of a four-game losing streak. But the win last night was the second in four games for the improve Devils (5-10-2).
It was just the second goal of the season for Downing, and his third point overall. Tyler Phair scored the other Salem goal, also his second tally of the season, off assists from Ken Frazier and Brian Shea. Cody Marquis potted Londonderry's lone score.
