LAWRENCE - Vulnerable? Sure, as a runaway steamroller.

Unbeaten Central Catholic, with top scorer Jimmy Zenevitch limited to spectator status by an ankle sprain, throttled upset-minded Lawrence, 73-60, before about 800 fans last night.

The Raiders claimed sole possession of their fourth straight conference title and made it look easy, finding offense from all angles, especially in the pivotal third quarter.

"Guys step up on this team," said sophomore Luis Puello, who tossed in a career-high 14 points in the Raiders 16th straight win. "We knew Jimmy was out and people were doubting us, but we know we can all make plays. I can make plays. Coach told me to look for more offense. Carson (Desrosiers) told me to look for more offense. And that's where I got my energy from."

Puello and Andrew Ouellette - making his first career start in Zenevitch's absence - ignited the 12-0 run out of the box in the third that put the Raiders in supreme control.

Puello knocked home a three, his fourth of the season, and Ouellette delivered three straight hoops.

Finally, after the Raiders fifth straight stop, Puello buried another triple, bumping the margin to 39-23.

Ouellette, with 13, also posted a career high. Senior captain Michael Alvarez paced all scorers with 16, matching his season best.

After neither team wanted to come up first for pregame, the Raiders were the first to find their comfort level, even with no Zenevitch and Desrosiers struggling in a 4 for 15 shooting night.

"It was a vibe in the locker-room,very relaxed," said Puello. "Carson gave us a lot of confidence. We know that we can get better as a team, even without Jimmy. These obstacles will only make us better."

The Wake Forest-bound Desrosiers had only nine points but delivered 11 boards, four blocks, four assists and one uncanny no-look bounce pass to a streaking Jaycob Morales.

For 11-6 Lawrence, which never led and trailed by as many as 22, Jaylen Alicea led with 10 points. Dawrin Pereyra and Luis Vasquez chipped in eight apiece.

Central now hits the road for a Super Bowl Sunday 1:30 matinee against unbeaten Rhode Island defending state champ Bishop Hendricken.
