Lawrence High coach Don Sheldon couldn't hold back the excitement of last night's break-through match.
"It's our best performance in two years," said Sheldon after the Lancers slugged it out to a 1-1 draw with Andover. "Everyone stepped it up in an extremely exciting game," said the coach.
Andover drew first blood on an Alex Herlich goal, but the Lancers rallied in the second half, cashing in with 10 minutes left. A spectacular Lucy Francisco direct-kick from near the corner was headed home brilliantly by Melvin Gonzalez for the equalizer.
Each team had chances late, but Lancer Edwin Gutierrez and Warrior Adam Trotta each stood strong and got a little help as both teams hit the cross-bar.
Kelvin Rangel turned in a huge effort for the Lancers.
