Big plays the theme of the day for Pelham

PELHAM N.H. — Continuing to show the big play abiliy in all three phases of the game, Pelham rolled to a 38-0 stomping of winless Epping in its last regular season game before the playoffs. Not only did Pelham connect on several big plays, they did so in timely fashion during key moments of the game.

Python quarterback Joe DeAngelo put on a passing clinic, throwing two touchdowns while completing 15 of 25 passes for 307 yards, his second 300-yard game this season. Putting on it's own small version of the greatest show on turf, the Pelham offense had eight plays that went for 25-yards or more, seven through the air and scored at least 35 points for the fifth time this season.

Utilizing the play-action pass to perfection, DeAngelo was able to find several receivers all game downfield with plenty of space. DeAngelo also spread the ball around effecively hitting a total of six different receivers including Michael Lombard (5 catches 104 yards TD) and Kevin Cheam (3 catches 66 yards TD).

Keeping in style with the big play, the Pelham defense also provided its own fireworks, forcing three turnovers including a 75-yard interception return by defensive lineman Warren Greenhalgh. With Epping gaining momentum for the first time all game midway through the third quarter, Greenhalgh stepped in front of a pass in the flat and with a full entourage of defensive players in front of him plowing the way, raced the 75 yards to the endzone effectivly ending any chance of Epping getting into the game.

Not to be outdone by either the offense or defense, the special teams also joined in on the fun, when they lined up to block a punt with only 30 seconds before the halftime whistle. Not even lining a player to field the punt, Pelham sent a full house to the punter and Lombard managed to shoot through a gap on the right side and easily blocked the punt which teammate John Bourk scooped up and ran the 20 yards to the endzone putting Pelham up 19-0 and giving them all the momentum going into the half.

While Pelham locked up a postseason berth last week over in a win over Stevens, it now must wait for saturday's game between Bow (5-2) and Trinity (7-0) to determine if they receive the no. 2 seed or no. 4 seed in the playoffs. A Trinity win will give Pelham the no. 2 seed and a home playoff game while a Trinity loss will mean Pelham will be on the road in the first round as either no. 3 or no. 4 seed.
