Odds and ends: The five wins were the most by the Reggies since 2001 (5-5). They had won seven games combined in the previous four years. ... They beat Lawrence on Thanksgiving Day for first time since 2001. ... Greater Lawrence didn't throw a touchdown pass in 2006. ... On the coaching staff, the Qualters, Jim and Jamie, are father and son, while the Thompsons, Dan and Dave, aren't twins, but they are brothers. And, of course, Tony and Dib Sarkis are brothers, as well. ... There is much talk of Sarkis' wrestling-football connection with the athletes, but how about baseball? Slugger/sack machine Juan Olivo hit .393 last spring, and Yerison Cruz swung it at a cool .372. Split end Miguel Plaza was 3-1 on the mound.

Coach Tony Sarkis (3rd year 6-16): "I'm cautiously optimistic. It's a strong senior group, and we expect to win some games. The kids worked hard this summer, more kids went to camp than ever. But the strength is the senior base. They'll have to take charge. Nate Adames' potential is yet to be tested. With him and JD (Jonathan Dellossantos) at quarterback, it's going to give defenses something to think about. Our concern is consistency. We have to stay together and work hard."
