Opener: Sept. 22 vs. Loomis, 2:30 p.m.
Odds and ends: Phillips graduated Eagle-Tribune All-Star Chris Shannon of Andover, who earned a scholarship to Duke. ... The Big Blue will unveil their new turf field in the home opener on Sept. 22. ... Newcomer Luke Duprey of Concord, N.H., and Eaglebrook Prep should be a star in the football, hockey, and lacrosse programs. ... Postgrads Ryan McCarthy (10 TD catches at Newton North), Bryan Farris (1,789 passing yards, 10 TD passes, 4 field goals at Pinkerton Academy), Luke Miller (second-team all-city defensive lineman in Philadelphia at Episcopal High) and Thane Sanford (14 TDs, 100 points, 92-1,025 rushing at Whittier Tech) are all coming off impressive senior seasons.
Coach Leon Modeste (21st year, 109-53-2): "Bryan Farris is our leader. He's going to power our offense. We have a lot of new faces, and a lot of 10th graders will start. Looking at the 22 starting positions, eight will start. Zach Boyd and Luke Duprey can start on both sides of the ball. But you know what they say in the Bible, 'A child shall lead them.' I sincerely hope it will work this time. But Farris is such a rally-the-troops type guy that I think we can line 'em up and play."
