Playing in the final game of the Greater Haverhill Christmas Hoop Classic last night, the host Hillies held advantages in size and speed. Pentucket, though, held an apparent edge in patience and discipline drawn from a senior-ladened squad.
The Sachems represented the Cape Ann League well, trailing by only four points to their Merrimack Valley Conference foe with 3:49 left in the third quarter before the offense disappeared and Haverhill ran away for a 52-33 victory and the tourney crown.
"It was fun, ugly, but fun," Sachems head coach Leo Parent said. "Haverhill will press you and run you out of the gym, but we go back on defense and competed, especially in the first half. I was very happy with the effort."
