Hillies fall to Westford in first round loss

In spite of having a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half, Haverhill was not able to outlast the Westford Academy attack as the Hillies lost, 3-1, in the first round of the Division 1 North playoffs. Casey Anderson got the Hillies on the board when she connected on a Molly Fitzgerald corner kick, but unfortunately, that was all the offense Haverhill could muster. Still, head coach Fred Tarbox had a positive outlook on the team and their wonderful season:

"The game was so much closer than the score indicates," Tarbox said. "It was just an incredible game. It was awesome and very intense. We took it to them and played right with them today. I'm very proud of my team and their season."

Freshman Meghan Gulbradnsen got the start in net and racked up an amazing 18 saves. Again, Tarbox was impressed.

"I'll tell you what, she was the MVP of the game. If she doesn't make those saves, we're not even in it. The other coach came up to me after the game and said, 'Who's your goalie? She's incredible.'"

Haverhill graduates just three seniors, so look for the Hillies to have similar success next season.
