In spite of having a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half, Haverhill was not able to outlast the Westford Academy attack as the Hillies lost, 3-1, in the first round of the Division 1 North playoffs. The Hillies, who graduated eight seniors, will enter the tournament later in the week with both momentum and an 11-5 record. "I'm very happy with our season and, at this point, we might be stronger than last year's team (13-4-2)," said coach Fred Tarbox. "Some people doubted that we'd even be .500 this year, but we're a faster and stronger team overall." High scorer Casey Anderson, on an assist from Melissa Clark, scored 1:32 into the game and that was all the scoring for the game. That was Anderson's school-record 28th game. "We had some chances after that, but they had some, too," said Tarbox. "They're a good team." Junior Samantha Krenzer played an excellent game off the bench at stopper for the Hillies. Pauline Reilly had 10 saves for the Royals (10-5-1).

Haverhill's Molly Fitzgerald played outstanding as she assisted on the tying score, and one minute later rocketed in the go-ahead goal to propell Haverhill to the win.

Casey Anderson didn't settle for a run-of-the-mill hat trick. The Haverhill soccer scoring machine scored five goals, four in the second half, as the Hillies roughed up overmatched Notre Dame of Tyngsboro. It was only 2-1 at the half then Anderson heated up for her 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th goals of the season. "She's just an outstanding goal-scorer. They were all pretty goals," said Hillie coach Fred Tarbox.
