Burke shines for Andover

Andover senior Sean Burke fired an exceptional 35 on the back nine yesterday to finish with a 72 and finish in a tie for fourth at the Division 1 state golf tournament at Brookmeadow Country Club in Canton.

Burke had a solid 37 on the front nine before tying for the low round of the day on the back nine. Ricky Stimets of Wachusett was the medalist on the day with a 34-35 round of 69 while South Hadley's Scott Rainaud and Westfield's Dan Fanion fired 71s.

Andover's Eric Hooker, meanwhile, shot a 77 and Adam Rosenzweig checked in with an 81 as the Golden Warriors tied for ninth as a team with 315 points. South Hadley came in first with 300.

Also from the area, Central Catholic's Jake Hajec and Joe Leavitt fired an 80 and 81 respectively.
