Pentucket's boys basketball team got off to a strong start in its Division 3 North opener Monday night and then held on for a 71-62 victory over Bedford.
The No. 2-seed Sachems moved ahead 17-10 after the first quarter and led 33-22 at halftime. Bedford played a solid second half but was unable to get a big enough run to catch up.
Balanced scoring was a key for Pentucket as Jake Etter led with 15 points, one more than Gus Flaherty and two more than Peter Cleary. Peter Lopata added nine and Spencer Pacy had eight.
The Sachems (19-2) will now host No. 10-seed Weston (11-10) in the Division 3 North quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Friday. Weston defeated Watertown 57-50 Monday.
