MALDEN — A strong defense and some clutch running proved the difference for Lawrence Friday night in a 14-8 defeat of Malden for its first victory of the season.
Quarterback Jacob Tamayo gave the Lancers an 8-0 lead when he ran it in from 11 yards out in the second quarter and the defense held Malden scoreless until the fourth quarter.
The Lancers scored the game winner when rugged back Brandon Santell — who was a force on defense all evening — ran it in from five yards out.
