Higher division, another title
Although Whittier moved up to the tougher upper division of the Commonwealth Conference this year, the move didn't faze sophomore Bryan Stanley in the least.
Stanley, a resident of Haverhill, finished first in the lower division last year and yesterday finished first in the upper division, running a course record 16:39 on the 3.1-mile Essex Aggie course.
"Bryan just keeps getting better and better," said Whittier coach Dave Cunningham. "He's in great shape."
Surprisingly, another Whittier runner, Ian Kelley, finished second in 17:35 in what was his best race of the season. Greater Lawrence's Erick Polanco was fourth.
Shawsheen won the upper division team title, with the Reggies finishing third and Whittier fourth.
