BILLERICA — Whittier almost pulled off an incredible turnaround Friday night.

Blasted by Shawsheen 46-8 just three weeks earlier, the Wildcats held an 8-6 lead against the Rams heading into the fourth quarter befor a fumble recovery for a touchdown and a broken tackle accounted for two touchdowns to give the host Rams a 22-8 victory in the first round of the Division 6 playoffs.

"I'm just so proud of the kids, they played so hard," said Whittier coach Kevin Bradley. "We outgained them and I thought we outplayed them for a lot of the game. It was just turnovers that hurt us."

Whittier gave up four fumbles and had a pass intercepted.

Julio Joubert and Corey Defusco led a balanced rushing attack with 68 and 58 yards and quarterback Kevin Bradley completed 19 of 28 passes for 221 yards. Mike McAulliffe led the receivers with eight catches for 82 yards, one a 26-yarder in the second quarter which — after another eception for two points — gave the Wildcats the lead until the fourth quarter.

"It was a tough one to lose, but we did everything we could to win it," said Bradley.
