ARLINGTON — Ali Rodriguez made 13 saves, including two outstanding stops to keep her team in the game, but No. 14 North Andover could not score the upset, falling to No. 3 Arlington in the Division 2 North girls soccer first round on Thursday.
"We had our chances but it just didn't work out," said Scarlet Knights coach Lisa Rasanen. "That is a very good Arlington team that played a great game."
Arlington, which fell in the EMass. Division 2 title game, advances to play Woburn.
The star of the night for North Andover was Rodriguez, who made a high-light reel save in each half to keep the deficit at just one goal.
"She was just great," said Rasanen. "She made an amazing save in the second half when she knocked it over the top of the goal. She also made a huge save in the first half. The goal wasn't her fault. it was off a corner kick and and it was a scrum in front."
North Andover's best chance to score came in the second half when a ball came loose in front of the goal. But the Knights could not finish.
Also impressing for the Knights were Lauren Hiller in the midfield and Kate Sheevers at sweeper.
"The girls played a very good game," said Rasanen. "But they were a little better."
