Playing alongside shortstop Ashley Burnham, who is one of the best players in the state, it's easy for Danvers High sophomore third baseman Joanna Zecha to get overlooked. But Zecha is playing brilliantly in her own right and is appreciated by her teammates and coaches.
Zecha had eight putouts in Danvers' 5-0 win over Dracut on Monday and she contributed a huge three-run triple in an important 10-5 win over Marblehead.
"She's played incredible softball," Danvers coach Tara Petrocelli said of Zecha. "Joanna is very quick to the ball. Playing where she does, it would be easy for her to rely on Burnham (who has extraordinary range), but she gets to her share of grounders and makes the plays."
