North Reading lacrosse coach Chuck Campobasso had no trouble with defenseman Conor Murnane grabbing the whiteboard and mapping out what his backline teammates needed to do. "He's a coach on the field and he knew what we needed to do," Campobasso said, and Murnane played a key role in chilling Danvers' hot start and sending the Hornets to a 7-5 comeback victory. "We settled down in the second half and our midfielders (Anthony Lytle, Mike O'Brien and Nate Seed) did well controlling the ball."

BYFIELD – In a Division 4 North semifinal matchup between a pair of veteran contenders, the experience for Danvers proved to be a bit more of the big-game variety.

Methuen hockey nearly had its first win of the year, and a major upset at that, but Danvers (7-3-2) scored with about seven minutes left in a 1-1 tie. Matt Bauchman had the goal, Chris Milone (17 saves) shined in net and Dylan Yameen and Mike Baglieri played fine all-around games.

"Under these conditions tonight (rain and cold weather), he had to save everything," Andover coach Jim Saalfrank said about his goalkeeper Connor Merinder who made a remarkable 22 stops against Danvers to lead the Golden Warriors to a 2-1 victory in boys soccer. 

Danielle Dion scored the game-winner at the 62:59 mark as Merrimack women's soccer won 3-2 over Le Moyne. 

Jenna Savi and Sam Brady also scored for the Warriors (6-2, 4-1).

Kaileigh Rogato and Michaela Mello anchored the North Andover defense, which tightened up on Danvers in the second half and powered the Knights to a 21-13 win. Middie Shelby Boudreau was superb on defense, while Olivia Boudreau led all scorers with six goals.

Danvers dominated from the beginning and rolled to a 74-45 win over Pentucket in the Division 3 North quarterfinals. 

"We had a lot of breakdowns defensively in the first half and that dug us a hole. We weren't able to dig out.," said Sachems coach Leo Parent.
