DEDHAM — North Reading’s Chris Cervizzi erupted for 288 yards and three touchdowns and Kyle Neyman made three interceptions as Brooks overcame turnover troubles to roll past Nobles 30-13 Saturday afternoon.

“Defensively we played a terrific game,” said coach Pat Foley. “Offensively we made some mistakes, but the defense made up for it and Cervizzi is some kind of impressive kid.”

It was a career-day for Cervizzi, a returning Eagle-Tribune All-Star.

The 5-foot-6, 170-pound dynamo carried a whopping 34 times for 288 yards and singles scores in the second, third and fourth quarter. The yards were a career-best and the carries were second to his 39-rush day a year ago against St. George’s.

“He’s a special player,” said Foley. “It’s really incredible because you watch him and you see the great runs but you don’t realize how much he is doing. Then you look at the stats at the end of the day and he really racks up the yards pretty good.”

The Brooks offense had trouble getting rolling early, turning the ball over four times. But Neyman’s three interceptions led an opportunistic Brooks defense that forced five key turnovers and let the offensive find its groove.

“Those turnovers were huge,” said Foley. “Kyle played a great game and Will Gibley was great on the defensive line. We made some mistakes and those turnovers allowed us to stay in the game when our offense was trying to give it away.”

Brooks (2-0) returns home to face St. George’s on Friday at 7 p.m.
