Methuen boys soccer battled Madison Park even through the first half, building momentum for a strong second-half surge.
But a physical contest knocked a couple of key Rangers out of the lineup and No. 6 Madison Park took advantage for a 5-1 Division 1 North quarterfinal victory.
MVC All-Star Louis Warner and Alexis Barrera, who scored Methuen's goal early in the game, both suffered groin injuries to put the 14th seed's upset bid on ice.
"It was tough to fill their shoes," said Rangers head coach Jeff Lamy.
A stellar effort from Luis Guerrero helped preserve the Rangers' 1-1 halftime deadlock as he cleared two balls off the goal line.
"Luis had an outstanding game," said Lamy. "He's been a leader for us all year."
