NORTH ANDOVER — His senior prom looming yesterday, North Andover's Tyler Leavitt worked quickly, efficiently and assiduously.

In the process, Leavitt kept his perfect high school record in tact. The lefty, now 17-0 lifetime in a Knight uniform, spaced six hits and a walk, striking out six in the Division 2 North quarterfinal win over Marblehead.

The defending sectional champion Knights, now 18-4 and winners of their last nine, will face No. 5 Beverly in the North semis at a time, place and date to be announced.

"I just hope I don't have to run to the prom (last night) and tell them we're playing (today)," said Knights' coach Todd Dulin.

That decision, for now, is out of North Andover's hands.

What the Knights could affect yesterday, they handled brilliantly.

Leavitt spotted the fastball in myriad places, making things tough on the Magicians all day.

Meanwhile, North Andover did what it does best offensively, which is produce just enough offense to move on.
Brandon Walsh, Tyler Whitley and John Iannone all had RBIs for North Andover, which amassed nine hits on three different Marblehead pitchers.

Leavitt and Dan Rivet produced two hits apiece. But it was Leavitt's mound work that owned the day.

"The curve wasn't working so I did a good job of hitting spots with my fastball," said Leavitt, now 7-0 this year. "I'm just always trying to put my team in the best position to win. I think I did that today. Allowing three runs is a little high, but it was good enough to get the 'W.'

"The prom will be fun tonight, especially after we got a good team win."

The Knights have to be hoping for a Thursday date in the semis. That would put Brandon Walsh on three days of rest. The sectional finals are tentatively set for Saturday, which would put Leavitt on three days' rest as well, should North Andover survive.

"I'll be ready, 100 percent," said Leavitt. "I'll go home, ice my arm, run, stretch, do all my exercises, just to be ready. Three days rest is not easy, but if I commit myself to get my arm ready I'll be fine."
