LOWELL — A warrior, now with three North sectional semifinal wins on his resume, Georgetown High junior captain Ryan Browner has imparted every piece of postseason wisdom on his less seasoned teammates — including his tips on the proverbial playoff beard.

"I just don't think any of them can grow one yet," chuckled the Royals right-hander, after mowing down Northeast Tech, 8-3, in yesterday Division 4 North semifinal.

Browner, granted a third day of rest by Mother Nature's wrath Thursday night, spaced seven hits and walk, striking out five and improving to 5-6 on the year (3-0 playoffs).

"Yes, he is definitely a grizzled veteran. It's his third semifinal as a pitcher," said Royals coach Mark Rowe. "He has the experience. The rain gave us the opportunity to come back with him. And we took advantage of it.

"I said it two years ago when he was a freshman. I never coached anyone who's come in with as much baseball knowledge and poise. Two years later, we're seeing that. I knew if we scored some runs, we are always going to be in the game with Ryan."

Offensively, Georgetown pecked away early, picking up two without a hit in the first by capilatizing on three Northeast errors.

But it was the four-run outburst in the fourth that put things on cruise control for the Royals.

Browner kick-started things, singling to right to plate Ryan O'Rourke and Chris Petro, each of whom had walked and advanced on a wild pitch. Two outs later, freshman Colby Ingraham laced a two-run liner to right to really bust things open.

"It was clearly the biggest hit of the game," said Rowe.

Another Ingraham, the sophomore C.J., earned the gold glove on the afternoon, making six plays in the field flawlessly at second base.

From there, Browner just worked the corners and ate away outs, setting up this morning's Division 4 championship game against Trinity Catholic, this morning at 10 a.m. at LeLacheur Park here in Lowell.

Rowe will be handing baseball to another of his youngsters, freshman Pat Slack, who had a couple huge starts down the stretch, including a 6-0 shutout of Amesbury in the Spofford Tourney opener.

Will the sage Browner impart any special wisdom on the freshman in the pregame?

"I'm just going to tell him to have some fun," said Browner "It's just like any other game."
