Foul troubles, early injuries, an upset-minded, determined opponent, some woeful foul shooting late?
There were plenty of reason for Georgetown High to melt against the pressure last night.
But defense, plain and simple, wiped away all those other issues as the Royals held Tyngsborough to five fourth-quarter points in a 48-42 Division 4 North first round nail-biter.
"If we made a couple free throws, we might have won going away," said Georgetown coach Mike Rowinski, whose 8th-seeded Royals head to top seeded North Shore Tech Saturday night at 7 p.m. "But we played hard, and Neph Carmona was huge with six of his 12 points in the fourth. It was a great win for us."
Carmona paced a balanced attack, as Johnny Spears hurt his ankle/knee in the first couple minutes.
"We thought we lost him, but he hung in there and did a great job defensively on their point guard (Adam Byron)," said Rowinski of Spears, who finished with 9 points.
Ben Warren tossed in a season-high nine, while Tyler Wade, who hit a huge late three, and Angel Sanquintin added eight apiece.
Tyngsboro (42): Adam Byron 4-2-11, Adam Keohane 2-0-4, Rich Nall 1-0-2, Garrett Glavin 2-2-6, Chuckie Keenan 4-2-12, Matt Perkins 1-0-2, Miguel Rivera-Bartlett 1-3-5, Totals 15-9-42
