North Reading entered with a 3-6-1 record and Newburyport was 7-1. But when the dust settled, the Hornets stunned the Clippers, 2-1, on two Cody Carbone goals. Freshman goalie Keith Linnane turned aside 21 shots. It was the first time in recent memory that North Reading had beaten Newburyport. Nobody on the team had done it and assistant coach Brian McAuliffe added he had never beaten them in his four years either.
Tommy Potter, who was KO'd by a postgame punch vs. Amesbury late last week, was back in the lineup for the Hornets.
