Daryl Powell gave a hallmark performance. The Beverly junior captain and defensive center midfielder assisted on both of her team's goals, giving the Panthers' girls soccer team a 2-1 tournament triumph over their arch rivals from Salem at Bertram Field.

Kristin Wyke has college plans that don't include varsity soccer. The Salem High senior goalkeeper is most likely to continue in either club or intramurals in college, perhaps even playing lacrosse instead.

Freshman Brittany Russo scored the game's only goal 37 minutes into the first half off an assist from Chrissy Barrows as the Falcons knocked off Salem, 1-0.

Danvers, which won for the eighth time in nine games, got some fine play from goalkeeper Kasey Kellard, who earned her third shutout of the fall after making 13 saves.

Peabody rolled past Salem 3-1. Erika Digiacomo and sister-duo Emily and Alyssa Manoogian scored for the Tanners. Tending net for the Witches was Kristin Wyke, who stopped 11 shots.

Jamie Hanson scored Salem's lone goal in an attempt to rally a second half comeback, but Peabody held on for the win.

Salem rolled over Lynn English 5-1 in the Witches season opener. Christine Hinch scored a pair of goals and Monique Gallant added a goal and two assists.
