Lions roar past Hillies

The third time wasn't the charm for the Haverhill girls basketball team, which lost to Chelmsford for the third time this season, 58-36, in the first round of the Division 1 North tournament. Leandra Kwo and McKayla Dingle each scored 10 points for the Hillies (10-11).

Hillies headed to tourney

Leandra Kwo was unstoppable Friday night, scoring 27 points with 16 rebounds to lead Haverhill to a 63-54 win over Dracut. The win clinched a playoff berth for the Hillies (10-9), who also got 14 points and 8 assists from Christina Firek.

Haverhill holds off Knights

 

NORTH ANDOVER — Haverhill's girls won the battle Friday night but they're hopeful they didn't lose the war.

Fighting for a playoff spot, the Hillies (8-9) held off North Andover, 52-47, to move an important step toward the tournament, but they may have taken a blow in that goal late in the third quarter.

Leandra Kwo scored a game-high 14 points, and Christina Firek added 11 points as Haverhill erupted for 33 points in the second half to top Everett 47-38.

Tatum Shaw knocked down four 3s and finished with a game-high 18 points to lead Andover to a 64-38 win over Haverhill. Brooke Hardock added 13 points and Shea Krekorian 11 for the Warriors, while Leandra Kwo paced the Hillies with 10.

Hillies in 2-OTs

Haverhill won a wild one, 64-59, in double-OT against Dracut. Leandra Kwo had 18 points, Kya Burdier 15 and Christina Firek 13 in the win. According to coach Melissa Tarpy, there was a combined 91 free throws attempted between both teams.
