After long playoff drought, Hillies earn first postseason win in 16 years in blowout

HAVERHILL - The wait was long, but boy was it worth it for the Haverhill girls basketball team.

The Hillies hadn't even been in the North tourney in seven years. The last time they'd actually went on a run and won a playoff game, many of the girls on the current roster were still learning how to walk.

Double for Dingle

 

McKayla Dingle led all scorers for Haverhill with 22, including six 3-pointers and had 10 assists and 5 steals as Haverhill whipped Lawrence 77-37 to conclude the regular season with a 15-5 record.  Kendall Eddy followed with 15 points and 10 assists for the Hillies, who last won 15 games in 2011-12 and have not won more than 15 since 1998-99.

Freshman Kya Burdier had 21 points and 10 steals and Leandra Kwo had 10 points and 16 rebounds as Haverhill's girls improved to 14-5 by whipping Everett 78-50.

Kendall Eddy erupted for a season-high 21 points, Leandra Kwo added 18 and McKayla Dingle had 15 to lead Haverhill over Methuen, 89-58. Katy Dorandi led the Rangers with 19 points.

Hillies back in tourney!

With a 66-45 win over Dracut Friday night, the Haverhill girls basketball team qualified for the state tournament for the first time since the 2011-12 season. McKayla Dingle led all scorers with 15 points, and Lindsey Joubert, Leandra Kwo and Latasha Settles all had 9.

Haverhill gave powerful Andover (11-2) its best punch but the Golden Warriors held on for the 66-63 win. Gia Bramanti had 21, Tatum Shaw 11 and Brooke Hardock and had 10 big points in the win. Leandra Kwo had a game-high 22 points for Haverhill.

Haverhill's much-improved girls basketball team took a 14-4 lead in the first quarter and never let up in a 59-33 victory over Dracut. McKayla Dingle led all scorers with 19 points and Kya Burdier had 13 points, 7 rebounds and 6 steals as the Hillies improved to 6-2.
