Pinkerton's King wins New England title

DURHAM, N.H. — J.J. King, who has oinly done track for two years, won the javelin at the 73rd annual New England Championships at UNH's Reggie Atkins Track.

The senior, who is a UNH recruit, threw 189-4. The 6-4, 215-pounder's third of six throws was the big one. It was just off his modern school record of 190-5. Rhode Island freshman Ian Hall was runner-up with a 185-2 throw. Pinkerton senior Noah Woodman took second in the 400 (49.05) and anchored the Astros' eighth-place 4x400 relay. That quartet, which also included Jadyn Ruimwijk, Adam Spencer and Pat Hanlon, was clocked in 3:27.89.

Lawrence wins North decathlon title

An inexperienced but talented Lawrence High trio pulled a stunner and won the North Sectional team decathlon title.

The Lancers totalled 15,560 points to beat out runner-up Central Catholic (15,377).

Andover 27, Central Catholic 16, Haverhill 1, North Andover 1, Lawrence 0, Methuen 0, Pentucket 0

FITCHBURG — Lowell won the boys' title at the All-State meet and some MVC rivals had some stellar performances. Andover senior Matt McDermott won the discus with a 169-1 toss, just 11 inches off his area record. Teammate Alec Pascoe again starred with a sixth in the 110 hurdles and a fifth in the 400 hurdles.

Desrosiers paces Central

 

Greg Desrosiers had another outstanding day to pace the Central Catholic boys to second place at the Eastern Mass. Division 2 meet Monday.

Woburn won the meet with 91 1/2 points followed by the Raiders with 69. North Andover came in seventh with 42 points.

Flying high

Andy Robie tied a school record with a 6-6 in the high jump — the best jump in the Eagle-Tribune area this spring — to help North Andover beat Tewksbury 86-59. Robie also won the triple jump with a 41-7.

Robie coming on strong

Not only did North Andover junior Andy Robie jump 6-4 in the high jump, but in his first time doing the triple jump he just missed 40 feet. His teammate, Tyler Glendon, won with a jump of 41-08.5. Trevor Nassar ran a blazing 22.67 to win the 200.
