Marlayna Buco had a tremendous day, stopping 17 shots but ninth-seeded Haverhill lost 2-0 to top-seeded Acton-Boxboro in the Division 1 North quarterfinals in girls soccer action. Haverhill also lost 2-0 to Acton-Boxboro in the quarterfinals last year. "But this was a much closer game," Haverhill coach Fred Tarbox said. Last year, the Hillies posted their best win percentage and first tourney victory since going varsity in 1994. Haverhill won its second tourney game in program history with a 1-0 victory over Brookline in the first round Tuesday. "This the most successful senior class at Haverhill High (for girls soccer)," Tarbox said. The Hillies (8-6-5) also won their third consecutive MVC Division 2 title. Acton-Boxboro (18-0-1) scored on a corner kick and a shot from about 35 yards out. "Marlayna had a perfect day in net," Tarbox said. "Nothing she could have done about the two goals. In the wet conditions, she had good hands. On the corner, it was unfortunate. We were unable to clear it out." The other goal was placed perfectly, Tarbox added. "We put a lot of pressure on them, especially in the second half," Tarbox said. "I felt we outplayed them in the second half. A couple of twists and I think we would have been into overtime with them. But they are very talented, strong team. They play like a college team."

Kerrin Thomas sent Grace Stanton in all alone midway through the first half and the junior found the back of the net and Haverhill held on to blank Brookline 1-0 in the first round of the Division 1 North girls soccer tourney.

Needing a win, Haverhill's girls soccer team nudged Dracut 3-2 for its third straight MVC Division 2 title. Lindsay Fitzpatrick scored twice and had an assist and Kerrin Thomas scored the game-winner on a rocket of a shot coming off a breakaway.

Josephine Mahoney scored the game's lone goal with about 25 minutes remaining on an assist from Nicole Langlois as Methuen girls soccer won 1-0 over MVC rival Haverhill.

Haverhill's girls got hit by a questionable call and wound up getting tied by Billerica in the final second after a free kick was followed by a successful corner kick. Molly Thomas had two assists for the Hillies (6-3-5).

Danielle Stratoti scored her first ever varsity goal to help Haverhill girls soccer 4-1 over Malden.

Veronica Alois netted a hat-trick, raising her season goal total to 13 as Andover stuck a 4-0 loss on Haverhill.

With three minutes left and Methuen trailing 1-0 to Haverhill, Ally Drouin sent Lexi Hardy away with a beautiful cross for the equalizer as the schools battled to a 1-1 stalemate.

Kerrin Thomas scored her second hat trick of the season to pace the Haverhill girls soccer team to a 5-1 romp over Tewksbury. Also, Basema Hussein, in her first game in a year since suffering a knee injury, scored on her birthday and freshman goalie Jessica Kramer had 10 saves and played well in her first start.

Leah Chittick scored two goals and added an assist to lead North Andover girls soccer 6-0 over Haverhill and hand the Hillies their first loss.
