LAWRENCE — Looking to rebound from an unexpected Merrimack Valley Conference loss at Haverhill, Lawrence instead once again floundered at times in a nonleague encounter.

No. 15 Acton-Boxborough broke open a close game early in the final quarter to run past No. 11 Lawrence 80-70 yesterday afternoon.

The Lancers, 5-1 coming in, allowed the host Haverhill Hillies and sophomore phenom Noah Vonleh to hang around once too often.

Lawrence erupted for 47 first-half points and cruised to an 87-63 win over Salem in the 5th-place game of the Christmas Tourney. Jesse Hiraldo scored a game high 22 points and Dawrin Pereyra had 16 points for the Lancers. Mike Lorenz had 18 points to lead the Blue Devils.

Jaylen Alicea scored 25 points and led a wicked fastbreak to carry Lawrence past Methuen, 80-69, in a consolation game. Yadoris Arias (19) and 6-6 Jesse Hiraldo (16) combined for 35 more points.

LAWRENCE — Jimmy Zenevitch won't lie.

Unlike the pros, who at least claim they don't read the papers and websites, he reads everything.

And he doesn't like some of the stuff he was reading about himself. So he did something about it.

Jaylen Alicea scored 38 points with seven assists and three steals to power Lawrence over Chelmsford 77-66.

LAWRENCE — The Lancers might have had a little trouble finding the basket in their season opener, but with the kind of speed on display last night, subpar shooting won’t hinder the quick squad from Lawrence.
