LAWRENCE — Central Catholic unveiled its version of the Wildcat yesterday. No one could have predicted the good things that would result from a seemingly simple addition.

Running back Trae Musumarra broke in the new formation on Central’s first possession, combining three carries with a Red Raider penalty for six points. But more importantly, the early involvement jump-started his entire game. Finishing with 162 yards rushing and six touchdowns offensively, and a team-high 11 tackles as a linebacker defensively, Musumarra was immense as the Raiders held off a pesky Lowell squad, 40-32.

A wise guy shot back playfully, "Yeah, but what happened last week?"

Dracut smothers Central

 

DRACUT - Those around the Merrimack Valley Conference planning Dracut's demise might want to refrain from any football funerals.

The Middies, 0-2 coming in and reeling from huge losses to graduation and the emigration of their head coach across the river to Lowell, ran Central Catholic right off Beaudry Field, 27-14, before about 1,000 fans in the conference opener for both.

Raiders come on strong

LAWRENCE —  It was far from perfect, as few opening games are, but there were plenty of promising signs for Central Catholic’s football team last night.

The Raiders pulled away late for a solid 28-14 victory over a strong Marloboro club and showed potential on both sides of the ball.
