Royals win in nine

 

Cape Ann League small boss Georgetown needed nine innings but found a way to scrape past North Reading, 7-4. Sophomore Ryan Browner grabbed the win with 3.1 shutout innings of rellief. Chris Esposito knocked home the game-winner with a sacrifice fly, and Danyer Fabian delivered an RBI double to pad the advantage.

Surprise!

After yielding just seven runs in its last five games including three straight shutouts, three North Andover pitchers were battered for 12 hits as North Reading dealt the Scarlet Knights their second loss, 9-2. Aiding his own complete-game cause, Eric Maltacea rapped out three hits for the Hornets (7-7) and got ample help from Bobby Rosano (three hits and three RBIs). Connor Walsh and Alec Jillson plated the Knights' runs.

Amesbury 8, North Reading 7

Eric Maltacea's 2-run homer gave North Reading an early 3-0 lead, but a pair of four-run innings put Amesbury on top to stay, eventually winning, 8-7. Ben Harrow had an RBI hit during the Hornets' attempted comeback and Ben Makowski's three singles led the offense.

Sachems break ice

Winless coming in and trailing much of the way, Pentucket needed something positive. The Sachems found it in a five-run sixth, rallying to down North Reading, 8-5. Pinch-hitter Josh Silva's two-run double highlighted the frame. Mike Nolan followed with a two-run double of his own. John Gavin, a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate, delivered six strong innings on the mound for the win. Matt DiVecchia and Bobby Rosano each had two hits for the Hornets.

Hornets Win In Extras

Bobby Rosano hit a leadoff double to start the 9th inning, and came around to score on Ben Mackowski's one-out single to help North Reading defeat Lynnfield 8-7 in extra innings.

Hamilton-Wenham 6, North Reading 5

It was one of those days for North Reading. Struggles on the mound and defensively combined with fortunate Hamilton-Wenham defense to give the Generals a walkoff 6-5 victory. Despite overthrowing two cutoff men, Hamilton got two Hornet runners out at the plate, then took advantage of an error and a mixup on a pitch to plate the winning run in the seventh inning.

Hornets walk off with a win

Eric Diffily came through with a two-run triple to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh, and Brandon Currier delivered the walk-off single to score Diffily in North Reading's 9-8 win over Ipswich.
