Bryan Stanley won the 1,600 (4:58) and 3,200 (10:09) to lead Whittier to a second-place finish at the Commonwealth Conference Open. Whittier's Ralph Hancock won the javelin and Kobie Green-Jackson captured the high jump.

Dynamic duo

Kobie Green-Jackson and Matt Spurling combined for seven of Whittier's nine wins as the Wildcats bested Nashoba 76-61. Green-Jackson took the long jump, high jump and 100 and Spurling won the shot put and discus.

Kobie Green-Jackson won the long jump (18-10), high jump (5-8), 100 dash (11.37) and ran on the winning 4x100 relay as Whittier bested Greater Lowell 75-61.

What rust?

An impressive return by Ian Kelly highlighted Whittier's 69-66 season-opening defeat of Greater Lawrence Tech. After being out of action for 1 1/2 months due to shin splints, Kelly stepped up with a 5:12 mile to win the event. Colby Green-Jackson triumphed in three events (long jump, high jump and 100) and Brian Stanley won two events for the Wildcats including a strong 2-mile time (10:36). Jonathan Kadiz and Hector Payano kept the Reggies close.
