Grand slam sinks Wildcats

HAVERHILL — Just one shot. That's all Whittier allowed Tyngsboro in Division 3 North preliminary round play and all the visiting Tigers needed.

The only time Tyngsboro had runners in scoring position all day, ninth hitter Kayla Grandalski's grand slam wiped out a 1-0 Wildcat lead and the Tigers held on for a 4-3 upset victory.

Freshman strikes

Cassey Gloade continued her outstanding freshman season, going 3 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs as Whittier downed Andover 7-5. April Richardson was 4 for 4 with two RBIs for the Wildcats.

Good Dube

Shannon Dube fired a perfect game and fanned 10 as Whittier blanked visiting PMA, 15-0, in five innings. Cassey Glode belted a homer over the fence in left and Tiffany Mannion plated five runs.

Whittier 16, Presentation of Mary 1

Whittier knocked out four home runs in its 16-1 win past Presentation of Mary.  Cassey Glode had two home runs to lead the long-ball attack.  April Richardson and Tiffany Mannion also homered for the 12=5 Wildcats.

Caitlyn McHugh stroked a two-run single and April Richardson added a run-scoring double, breaking open a tie game and sending Whittier to a 4-1 victory over Minuteman.

Perfect qualifier


Whittier Tech sophomore Taylor Miller threw a five-inning perfect game, striking out nine, as the Wildcats (10-4) qualified for the state tournament with a 15-0 pounding of Lynn Tech. Cassey Glode had a home run and triple and Caitlin McHugh and Kailah Goulet also had homers.

Dube throws one-hit shutout

Shannon Dube tossed a one-hit shutout to lead Whittier to a 3-0 victory over Haverhill in girls softball. Dube went all seven innings, striking out eight and walking two.  The only hit she surrendered came in the seventh.

 Whittier's softball crushed 15 hits in an impressive 7-3 non-league win over Lawrence. Tiffany Mannion was 4 for 4 for the Wildcats and Cassey Glode and Kristina Terry both had two hits and two RBIs. Caitlyn McHugh was 2 for 3 and scored twice and sophomore Taylor Miller threw a two-hitter for the win.
