Lynch scores twice for North Andover

Courtney Lynch erupted for two goals and an assist to carry North Andover to its 10th win with a 3-0 shutout of Ipswich. With the win, the flawless Knights qualified for the state tourney for the eighth straight year. Alison McCarthy posted her ninth shutout in the 10 games. Katie McKinney turned aside 15 shots in defeat.

Galligan's two tallies lead Pentucket

Sarah Galligan scored two goals to lead Pentucket to a 6-1 victory over Ipswich. Lyndsay Beaton added a goal and two assists. Anne Cleary had a goal and an assist. Christine Roy and Brianna Dunn added one goal each and Katie Studzinski tallied three assists.

Burke's big day propels Royals

Georgetown broke open a 1-1 game at halftime and cruised to a 4-1 win over Ipswich in Cape Ann League Small action. Kelly Burke scored a pair of goals for the Royals (2-1) while Sarah Leblanc and Danielle Epstein (assist) also had goals in the win. Karen O'Hare stopped six shots to earn the win while defender Haley Gisonno and midfielder Emily Messelaar had strong defensive games.

Ipswich dropped its season opener on the road, 2-1 to Lynnfield. The Pioneers jumped out a 2-0 lead before the Tigers (0-1) answered with a goal by Kelly Gallanar off an assist from Chelsey Macklin. Ipswich goalie Kati McKinney made eight saves in the loss.

Tigers have difficult path to follow

Every year is different. Each team starts from square one at the beginning of a new season, but it's always difficult to forget past glory.

In 2006, the Ipswich field hockey team completed the regular season undefeated (14-0-5) and won its second straight Cape Ann League Small title in the process. The Tigers also won two games in the Division 2 tournament before falling to powerful Watertown, 3-0, in the semifinals.
